PRFEG Research

PRFEG is pursuing cutting edge research topics in photonics and microwave technology. The research activities of the Photonic and Radio Frequency Engineering Group are organised along three research strands:

  • High Power Optoelectronics

  • Photonic Communications Technology

  • RF Devices, Circuits and Materials

The synergies between these research strands allow us to establish the critical level of activity in each area needed to make an impact. The links in the menu to the left provide greater detail of our expertise in each of these areas.

The group's research portfolio reflects a synergetic mix of individual doctoral research investigations and more structured collaborative research projects. The group has a large number of PhD students working on varied topics, many in conjunction with other research groups, or indeed schools within the University. Collaborative research projects have received generous support from the European Commission and EPSRC. The group's has enjoyed long research interactions with leading UK and European companies, providing a strong industrial context for both medium and longer term research activities.
