PRFEG Facilities

An overview of the facilities available to the Photonic and Radio Frequency Engineering Group is given below. The links in the menu on the left provide further detailed information and specifications of the individual facilities.

OMES Laboratory

The Optical Materials Evaluation System (OMES) Laboratory houses a robust and highly sophisticated optical measurement system, which was developed in-house for the characterisation of high-power laser emitters and bars, photonic integrated circuits and optoelectronic materials and devices.

Photonics Laboratory

The Photonic Communications laboratory houses an extensive range of photonic communications components and the test and measurement equipment needed to work with them. Communication links or individual components can be analysed.

RF Laboratory

The RF Laboratory provides facilities for the fabrication and characterisation of devices and materials at high frequencies. Facilities are also available for high temperature, high frequency characterisation of dielectric materials.

Photoluminescence / Photoreflectance Laboratory

The Photoluminescence (PL) and Photoreflectance (PR) Laboratory is used for studying the optical properties of a range of semiconductors with a particular focus on nitride materials (both dilute nitrides and full strength GaN and related materials).

Clean Room Laboratory

The group has developed a 100m2 clean room to support all areas of the group's research. The clean room is run by a dedicated clean room manager, Mr Rod Dykeman.
