Study Opportunities

The Photonic and Radio Frequency Engineering Group (PRFEG) welcomes applications for PhD study from well qualified and highly motivated individuals.

Funding can be provided (of various levels: part fees, all fees, fees and maintenance) for students from a number of different sources, for example:

Additionally international students may be able to attract funding from their own government or from other interested bodies.

While we welcome applications all year round please note that:

  • Because competition is intense, and because the funding opportunities have fairly predictable timescales, we would particularly encourage applications from international applicants requiring funding in the time period October to March.

Other funding opportunities (such as those arising from major European and EPSRC research projects) are generally advertised on the jobs.ac.uk website and on the University's HR website as they arise. Postdoctoral opportunities are advertised in a similar fashion.

We are often able to provide partial support for PhD students bringing partial funding with them.

To apply for postgraduate study please go to http://my.nottingham.ac.uk/pgapps/welcome/ where you can fill in the application form online. You will also typically have to send in (by post) original versions of the following supporting documentation:

  • Academic transcripts of your degree(s)

  • Two references

  • Proof of English language competence (only in certain cases)

Please do not send these to the Department or to individual PRFEG members, but rather follow the instructions provided in the application process. Please note that the sooner the supporting documentation is received the sooner your application can be given full consideration.

Please also note that while individual academic members of the group may look at CVs/Resumes, your application cannot be processed without you undergoing the application procedure above.
